A regular cleaning schedule is necessary to keep fans running at optimal capacity and prevent the accumulation of airborne bacteria. Continued exposure to airborne bacteria can result in illness.

Though you may use your kitchen exhaust fan every day, you may not know the first thing about cleaning it. It is complicated to do.

In today’s post, we’re sharing everything you need to know about cleaning a kitchen exhaust fan.

Remove the Fan’s Grease Filter

To remove the fan’s grease filter, first, locate the filter. It is usually located behind the fan blades. Once you have located the filter, unscrew it and pull it out. Next, use a brush or a vacuum cleaner to remove any dirt or debris that may be on the filter.

Prepare Your Kitchen Solution to Clean the Filter

To prepare your cleaning solution, simply mix one part water with one part vinegar. For tougher cleaning jobs, you may need to use a tougher solution such as a de-greaser. Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions when using any cleaning solution.

Get a Large Pan and Place the Grease Filter

To clean it further, you will need a large pan. Soak the filter in a large pan of hot soapy water. Then, use a soft brush again to scrub the filter clean.

Prepare Your De-greaser

A de-greaser is a powerful cleaning product that can remove stubborn dirt, grease, and grime. When cleaning your exhaust fan, a de-greaser can help to break down and remove any build-up that has accumulated on the blades and motor.

This will help to keep your exhaust fan running efficiently and prevent it from overworking and overheating. Additionally, using a de-greaser will leave your exhaust fan looking clean and new.

Clean the Rest of the Exhaust Fan Parts

Use a paper towel or cloth to wipe away as much of the grease and dirt as possible. Rinse the blades and housing with warm water and mild detergent. Allow the blades and housing to air dry completely before replacing the filter.

Let the Filter Dry

Rinse the filter and let it dry. Doing this will ensure that the fan is able to work properly and efficiently. Additionally, it will help to extend the life of the kitchen exhaust fans.

As always, be sure to consult the manufacturer’s instructions before cleaning the fan. Insert the filter back into the exhaust. Another option is to hire Detail Cleaning Services if you are not sure how to do the job.
